In Chris Birkett’s own words:
“I first heard the Uilleann Pipes in the early 1990s, when I was producing Sinéad O’Connor’s ‘My Special Child’, the single released following the success of ‘Nothing Compares 2 U.’
The beauty of the instrument and its magical sound has stayed with me all these years and inspired me to write this song as a tribute to the Pipes and the emotions it brings to me.”
This long-standing inspiration has now taken form in a track that feels both personal and cinematic—bridging decades of musical experience.
🎤 First Live Performance & Collaborators
“The Pipes of Uilleann” was first performed live on March 14, 2026 at Sauce on the Danforth in Toronto.
Chris also shared appreciation for the musicians involved:
“I want to thank Steafan Hannigan who plays the Pipes, Flute and Bodrun, and Lisa Hartt and Brian Morgan who performed the song with me for the first time.”
The performance video itself was shot and edited by Joan Prowse, capturing the live energy and studio atmosphere with clarity and focus.
